Kimberly started crafting as a teenager. Over the years she learned how to create many different types of crafts. Over time her crafting supplies were bursting out of a closet and it was time for her own craft space. Her original craft room started in a boiler room in the basement of her home. Everything that made up that room was used. She used her creativity and a few Goodwill items to make the space organized and functional.
Within a year, she outgrew that small space and was lucky enough that the “workout” room became available. It was a large bright space and was perfect for her.
A few years later she was able to create a craft workshop in her newly opened store, Kimberly Ann Home Decorating in downtown Oswego. She offered crafting and Cricut classes and again she outgrew that space. Soon the craft workshop was moved to a larger space in the store‘s lower level and classes continued. As the word spread, she offered larger classes to her customers.
Watch this video to see how my craft room evolved over the years. Sure, you can start out with the great new furniture from IKEA, Michael’s Craft Store and Sauder, but it’s not necessary.
Using Goodwill, Facebook Marketplace and garage sale items, a craft room can be created without having to break the bank. Don‘t forget about those old furniture pieces sitting in your basement or garage. They can be the perfect addition to your space!
This is my daughter Stephanie’s first craft room. It’s not big. It’s not fancy. It uses “out of the box” storage ideas and is bright, functional, and organized.
Transform any space into a place to craft.
“A place for everything and everything in its place” is a proverb that means that everything should have a designated place and be returned to it when not in use.
